Valley of Gold

Henry Wiebe Jan. 1987

At the waters of Marah, bitter was found,

          When Israel complained, God heard the sound.

He spoke to a prophet who showed them a tree,

          When cast in the waters they became free.

The sweet water they drank because of that tree,

          Was a shadow and type of Mount Calvary.

Herein lies the secret, there’s a valley of gold

          In each bitter trial that life may hold,

“Give thanks for all things” and “rejoice evermore,”

          These are the keys that will open the door.

He took the cruel cup and never asked why;

          He simply gave thanks that for us He must die.

They looked for His body on the third day,

          But now He’s missing; the stone’s rolled away.

We can triumph if we will be bold;

          Give thanks for our cup and do as we’re told.

Again I repeat, turn bitter to sweet;

          In all things give thanks; it’s your valley of Gold.
